HairMax LaserComb Review

You’ve probably already heard a lot of noise and stories about the HairMax LaserComb device, maybe even for years now,  as the product first came out in year 2000.

But, does it really work or is just another massively advertised product full of promises and poor in actual results?

Can it really stop your hair from falling out and help regrow new hair?  And what about the side effects?  Does it ruin your sexual life or even affect your liver as some other hair restoration treatments around can do?

Before starting writing this review, I have been researching the subject  thoroughly, reviewing many studies and read and listened to quite a substantial number of HairMax users’ experience so I hope this will help answer most of your questions.

Permanent hair loss problem or “alopecia”, which is the medical term for it, affects more than 80 million people in just the US  alone (both men and women) and although we all know that is much more common in men than in woman for genetic and hormonal reasons, there are still several million women affected by this problem.

There are various types of alopecia though the most common one is called androgenetic alopecia or male (or female) pattern baldness and the cause is mainly hereditary.

Does the Hairmax Lasercomb solve the problem?

As I mentioned before, the first Hairmax Lasercomb came out in the year 2000 and today is still selling like hotcakes. Through these years it has been used by thousands of people, men and women, and the results rate of satisfied users I have come across is impressive.

And what really makes this product different from many others around is that since January 2007  HairMax enjoys the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA)  clearance to be marketed as a treatment for male androgenetic alopecia.

How does the HairMax Comb Work?

This lasercomb works by energising the hair follicles in what is called the “Catagen” or resting  phase of the hair and therefore promoting the growth of  new hair. It also stimulates the scalp stabilising the hair loss and making your existing thin hair look healthier and stronger.

The hair grows in three phases:

1) Anagen which is the growing period;

2) Catagen called the resting phase,when the hair stops growing, and

3) Telogen which is the shedding phase, when the hair falls.

When the shedding phase occurs, those who does not have “pattern baldness” will already have a new healthy hair developing in the Anagen phase and as it grows, it pushes out the old hair and continues growing until the Telogen cycle kicks in once again.

Unfortunately this proccess of healthy hair renovation degenerates slowly and finally comes to a stop in many areas of your scalp when you have heredetary baldness.

Why am I telling you all this?  When you first start using the HairMax comb you may notice that you are losing more hair than before, in other words the shedding increases slightly but I stress, only during the initial phase. Naturally, many users start getting extremely worried during this initial phase but, in fact, you should not worry at all because in reality this means that the treatment is actually working!

This increase of shedding in the first phase is the result of new hairs growing in their follicles. The hairs falling are those thin, lifeless  hairs that were going to fall soon anyway, but now the difference is that they are being forced out because a new hair is pushing them.

How long do I have to wait to see any real results?

During the first 2 months you will notice that your existing hair gains more volume and the scalp feels healthier. This is also the time when a slight increase in shedding may occur, as I mentioned above. But the new hairs coming will look impressively thicker and stronger.

After 6 or 8 weeks, the average user notices an increase of hair growth. Your hair in general becomes more manageable and even if you have white hair, you may even notice a recovery of your natural hair color.

Full treatment benefits will start to be really noticeable after the first 3  or 4 months of use: new hair growing stronger, healthier and denser hair appearance.

Don’t get discouraged if after three months you do not see these full range of results. Each of us is different and while some people starts noticing the benefits very early,  for others it may take some more time.

The time you will need to see results will also depend on how early you have started to treat the problem. If you have been getting thinner and thinner hair for years and substantially losing hair,  your hair follicles will get revitalised with the use of this laser treatment but you will not see evident results as quickly as someone who has started to treat his  pattern baldness in the early stages.

After five months the clinical studies shows that the average user experience a halt in their hair loss and gains around 20% of new hair growth.

Treatment with HairMax will yield evident results when treating scalp areas where the hair roots are weak  or “dormant”, but still alive.

In those cases where the scalp has been clear of any kind of hair for many years and the hair roots are dead it is not possible to reverse the proccess.

What Side Effects Should I Expect?

The lasercomb is a non-invasive treatment. Since it first came out more than 10 years ago,  no significant side-effects from users have been reported.

Is it a Messy or Painful Treatment?

You do not need to use any lotion of any kind when using the lasercomb. On the contrary,  your scalp must  be clean so the laser light can penetrate deeply under the skin.  You will not notice any pain and as a matter of fact many users find it quite relaxing. The treatment has to be applied 3 times a week  and each session takes 10 to 15 minutes.

You do not need to use any special shampoo or conditioner but you should avoid  any shampoo containing sulfates.
